Fingerstyle Guitar — Week 3 — Day 15
2026-07-27 ma
Daily warmup (same every day, ~3 min)
Unchanged from Week 2: Part 1 open-string p-i-m-a (~1 min), Part 2 rest-stroke C major scale, i-m alternation, multiple passes (~2 min).
If the scale is clean at 60: nudge it to 66–72 during the week instead of adding notes. The two-octave G major waits for Week 4.

Theory (10%): the pinch you learn on Day 15 is an interval — root + whichever note a lands on. On C it’s C + E, a tenth. Melody + bass is just this, sustained.
Day 15 — The pinch (p + a together)
Builds on: Day 8’s thumb-root mobility; the flex-day teaser if you tried it.
Good for: the core mechanic of all melody-over-bass playing. Every arrangement in Phase 3 opens with this move.
The move: p and a strike at exactly the same instant — one sound, two notes. Pattern for today: (p+a) – i – m – a, one note per beat, ~60 bpm.
- Tune (~1 min)
- Warmup — 2 min
- Establish (3 min): Am only — just the pinch, over and over. One attack, not a flam. Then the full (p+a)-i-m-a bar
- Vary (3 min): same pattern on C, then Em — pinch spans change (S-5+S-1, then S-6+S-1)
- Integrate (3 min): rotate Am – C – Em, pinch lands clean on every beat 1
- Cooldown (3 min): the rotation soft and slow — is the pinch one sound or two?
- Fretboard +5 min — D (day 2/3)
